PET/CT enables spectacular detailed viewing of anatomical and functional processes at the molecular level through one noninvasive diagnostic procedure. Combining CT and PET created an imaging modality far more powerful than either imaging technique is alone.
Some of the clinical benefits include: enabling better identification of local and distant metastases, providing information about metabolic changes before structural changes become evident, and allowing oncologists to monitor progress and effectiveness of treatment.
The patient is given a single injection of a radioactive isotope which has no side effects. After waiting approximately 45 minutes in a quiet room the scan is performed which lasts for 25-30 minutes depending on the indication.
You may NOT have your “SCREENING MAMMOGRAM” if has not been a year HOWEVER if you are having problems or are feeling a lump please consult your doctor and you CAN have your mammogram before the year.
Your CT procedure may take 10 – 20 minutes depending on your indication.

CT (computed tomography), sometimes called a CAT scan, uses special x – ray equipment to obtain image data from different angles around the body and then uses computer processing of the information to show a cross – section of the body tissues and organs.
CT imaging is particularly useful because it can show several types of tissue – long, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels with great clarity. Using specialized equipment and expertise to create and interpret CT scans of the body, radiologists can more easily diagnose problems such as cancers, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and musculoskeletal disorders.
When the exam is complete, a radiologist (a specially trained medical imaging doctor) will review your pictures. Your physician will receive a report and pictures detailing the findings from your exam within 24 hours.
Drink plenty of water. No gum, candy, or exercise 24 hours prior to your exam.
Please follow a low carbohydrate diet.
Make sure you are on time for your exam.
Wear comfortable clothing.
Plan to spend two hours at the PET/CT imaging center. Exam times and procedures vary with each patient.
Please bring your Insurance Card and any diagnostic imaging procedure films, CDs and reports.
